The UK Government’s Gift Aid Scheme enables churches to reclaim tax on any monetary donation (tithes and offerings) made by any UK tax payer.

Find some commonly asked questions and a downloadable form below.

Anyone who pays UK income tax on their salary can give their donations through the Gift Aid Scheme.

For example:

If you give £40 to your Church, having signed up to the Gift Aid Scheme, the Church can reclaim from the Government an additional £10. Therefore, £40 is worth £50 to the Church when given by the Gift Aid Scheme.

First, fill in a Gift Aid Form, available from our Finance Officer Sophie Watson, or Barbara Fell.

Once your form has been registered, you will then be given a unique identification number to be used whenever you give a donation (tithes). It is important that we are able to identify your donation so that we make the correct claim.

No. If they do and have not paid Income Tax, HM Revenue and Customs will require the individual to repay any money claimed through the Scheme.

You can still tithe to the church without Gift Aiding.
